Hi Guys & Dolls!
It's coming up to my favourite time of year - Halloween! A great time to experiment with new makeup looks and go crazy!
Blood always features prominently during the All Hallows Eve festivities, however buying fake blood can be expensive, and it doesn't always look very realistic so I'm going to share a recipe to make some very convincing and gory fake blood you can make at home with your kitchen ingredients.
Who doesn't love dressing up as a mad scientist and coming up with some cunning and devilish recipes you can whip up at home?! :D
Ok so, you're gonna need:
- 2 Cans of Golden Syrup
- 2 Bottles of Red Food Colouring
- 1 Bottle of Blue Food Colouring
- Tablespoon of Corn Flour / Custard powder
- 2 Teaspoons of instant Coffee Granules dissolved in half cup of water
- Tin of Black Cherries - Optional - makes a great addition though as the chunks of cherries resemble congealed blood clots - yum! :P
Get a large bowl and pour in both tins of Golden Syrup. Next add your dissolved coffee granules to the mix and stir. Add 2 bottles of Red Food Colouring and 1 bottle of Blue Food Colouring. Stir well. Add a heaped tablespoon of either Corn Flour or Custard Powder to slightly thicken the mixture. If desired, add a tin of Black Cherries - again, stir well and mash up the cherries slightly. The addition of Black Cherries adds lovely congealed blood clots to your mixture - Mmmm!
You should now have something resembling this:
The recipe above should make approx. 1 litre of your own DIY Fake / Yum Yum Blood.
As all of the ingredients are food based, it's totally safe and non-toxic - so you needn't worry if you swallow any - it's actually quite tasty, if a little sweet, and it's safe to use on children.
This concoction will actually stay "fresh" for quite some time given that most of the ingredients are high in sugar which will act as a preservative. You can also keep a few bottles in the fridge if you wanna make up a big batch and keep it til Halloween.
With your new Yum-Yum blood you can no go ahead and create something like this...
