Skincare Sunday: Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm

I'm a bit of a skincare fiend - I'm always on the hunt for TNBT (The Next Big Thing) in my quest to find the Holy Grail of cleansers. As a result, I'm always eager to try out new brands and products to see how they fare. My favourite type of cleanser, without a doubt, are hot cloth cleansers - I love, love, love these and thankfully, my skin does too.

So, it was with eager in-trepidation and high hopes that I've been trying out the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm, but does it live up to its claims?

Merumaya is a relatively new skincare brand launched by Maleka Dattu (voted Cosmetic Executive Women’s Achiever of the Year in 2006 no less!) after spending years in the industry working with many of the leading, high-end cosmetics houses.
I wondered about the origins of the name Merumaya and I found out that interestingly, the name came about as a result of the combination of the first two letters of the names of Maleka's father, mother, sister, baby daughter and herself.

Now as I said earlier, I'm a huge fan of hot cloth cleansers in general; having purchased in the past - Eve Lom, Liz Earle and Boots Time Delay Balm Cleanser to name just a few. You'll all be sick of me saying this, but as a gal with dry and dehydrated skin, cleansing balms are a god send for my skin type, so I was really looking forward to getting down and dirty (and then cleansed and cleaned again!) with the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm.

"Sweet Almond Oil and Echium Seed Oil (RevitElix™), Mangosteen extract and the MERUMAYA Signature Essence Blend, are integratively balanced and make Melting Cleansing Balm™ an experience you cannot do without."

Ingredients:

RevitElix™ is Echium oil providing Omega 3, 6 & 9 to reduce lines and wrinkles, improve elasticity and participate in barrier repair. It helps rebuild the hydro lipid film as the skins surface and is also anti-irritant.
SUCRAGEL™ contains Sweet Almond Oil and acts as a ‘wash on’ moisturiser and leaves a velvety finish while thoroughly cleansing
MANGOSTEEN FRUIT EXTRACT is rich in vitamins and polyphenols providing anti-oxidant protection

INCI - CAPRYLIC/CAPRIC TRIGLYCERIDE, GLYCERIN, PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS (SWEET ALMOND) OIL, AQUA (WATER), SUCROSE LAURATE, GLYCERYL DIBEHENATE, ECHIUM PLANTAGINEUM SEED OIL, PHENOXYETHANOL, SUCROSE PALMITATE, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE), SUCROSE COCOATE, SUCROSE STEARATE, CITRONELLOL, ETHYLHEXYLGLYCERIN, GARCINIA MANGOSTANA FRUIT EXTRACT, LIMONENE, LINALOOL, CAPRYLYL GLYCOL, CHLORPHENESIN, TETRASODIUM EDTA, BUTYLENE GLYCOL, HEXYLENE GLYCOL.

The Melting Cleansing Balm comes in a 100ml squeezable tube which makes for easy and hygienic dispensing - always a plus in my book!

The first thing that struck me about this cleansing balm is the smell. Oh the smell, it's absolutely divine! The essentials oils aroma whisked me straight off to a swanky beauty parlour in the throes of having a luxurious facial. Really guys, the scent from this balm is just amazing, and very reminiscent of having a pricey professional, salon spa facial.  I only wish there was some way I could encode a "scratch and sniff" section on this page so you could experience this for yourselves :D

Now, I know that some of you aren't too keen on scented facial products with regards to possible sensitivity issues, however as a person with sensitive skin, I have to say that I had no issues whatsoever whilst using this and the fragrance was a huge bonus for me in this case - it really is lovely.

The balm itself is lovely and creamy without feeling greasy. You can apply it to dry skin and gently massage it in, whereby it liquefies and sinks into your skin. Next step, add some water and watch the balm turn into a milky emulsion. It feels velvety smooth as you apply it and massage it in circular motions and all the while you get that gorgeous scent. It's a treat for all your sense, it really is lush.

This works great used in conjunction with a muslin cloth soaked with warm water, which gently helps to buff away and exfoliate any dry or flaky patches with ease.

Merumaya state that the Melting Cleansing Balm offers a; "facial quality cleanse, every day" - and I'm in full agreement with this. It really was a salon-worthy cleansing experience and best of all, without the high price tag. Win!

I've noticed a definite improvement in my skin since starting to use this - I can even go without primer before my foundation routine now which was almost unheard of before. This has left my skin feeling velvety smooth and silky and was very effective in removing all traces of my makeup.

If you wear waterproof eye makeup, you may find that you will need a separate specialist eye makeup remover in conjunction with this, however I had no issues with this and found it more than sufficient in removing a full face of makeup. If you are a fan of waterproof mascaras and the like, I would always suggest using the likes of a bi-phase/duo-phase eye makeup remover anyhow, regardless of the cleanser you use, just to ensure that you remove all traces so you aren't left with those tell-tale panda eyes the next morning.

In conclusion, I have to say, hand on heart, I love this cleanser. A rich emollient without that greasy feeling and it doesn't leave any oily residue. It's nourishing, comforting, smells divine, effectively removes all makeup to leave your skin feeling pure and silky soft.

I've really had a hard time finding any flaw with this product (believe me, I've tried!) and if I was to say anything, it would be that it's a shame it doesn't come in a larger size as I can see myself purchasing this again and again.

I've been so impressed by this that I'm now looking forward to trying out the rest of the Merumaya range - the Iconic Youth Serum and Intensely Youthful Eye Cream have definitely caught my eye, so watch this space and expect to see some more Merumaya-related news coming this way in the near future ;)

Now before I give this product an A+ rating, I have possibly left the best part out... the price!

You're probably thinking that this is on the higher end of the price point scale, however, I'm delighted to say that it's extremely affordable at a very attractive price point.

It's available for just  €18.50 which I think represents fantastic value for money, especially for such a luxury product. I know that I'll definitely be swapping pay-day facial treats for the Merumaya Melting Cleansing Balm and that says a lot!
You can find the Merumaya range exclusively from Arnotts in Ireland here: Arnotts

Alternatively, you can order direct from Merumaya here - Merumaya

If you're thinking of trying out the range, the Tease Me, Please Me, Taster Set appears to offer phenomenal value - it includes a full size Intensely Youthful Eye Cream and four free trial sizes of  the aforementioned Melting Cleansing Balm, Skin Brightening Exfoliating Peel,  Iconic Youth Serum and Youth Preservation Moisturiser for  €30.50 here
